Form, Figure & Function: Contemporary Ceramics
Date: Wednesday, December 22, 2010 thru Thursday, December 23, 2010
10 am - 5 pm Wed/Fri/Sat, 10 am - 7:30 pm Thu. Exhibit ends January 8, 2011. This exhibition features 17 artists, who represent the evolution of ceramic arts in Ohio. Created by Charlotte Gordon, curator of the Springfield Museum of Art, and Lynnda Arrasmith, curator of the Canton Museum of Art, the exhibit was previously on display at the Springfield Museum of Art and at the Canton Museum of Art. Form, Figure & Function updates the rich heritage of Ohio decorative ceramics that have been on view at the ZMA over the past six months. It further demonstrates Ohio?s continued mastery of the clay medium. Visitors will discover clay constructions that are purely sculptural, turned vessels in sizes from tiny to very substantial, pieces that are warmly functional to whimsically dysfunctional. Several have the expressive attitude usually reserved for paintings and prints. Glazes, textures, and surfaces are remarkable
